Prepare now to get the classes you need.

Register for summer and fall classes.

Summer and Fall 2023 Class Registration begins April 3.

Now is the time to start preparing to register for summer and fall 2023 classes. Read the tips below and learn when to register and how to register for classes.

1. If you have not met with your advisor, do so. They are here to help you.

  • It’s important to stay on track to graduation and your advisor is here to help ensure you are heading in the right direction.
  • Remote advising is available. Options for remote advising could include virtual video conferences, phone calls, NIU emails or IM chats. Schedule an advising appointment through Navigate Student by clicking Appointments and selecting the "Advising" service, or contact your academic advising office to learn more about your options.
  • Come prepared to your meeting with any concerns that you have. Your advisor can help answer your questions and point you to available resources.

2. Log in to MyNIU and Navigate Student.

  • In MyNIU, you can check your enrollment date—the date and time you are able to register for classes.
  • In Navigate Student, you can see a list of important, time-sensitive To-Do items related to class registration. You can also schedule an appointment with your academic advisor through Navigate Student by click on Appointments and selecting the "Advising" service.
  • In both MyNIU and Navigate Student, you can see any holds on your account that may prevent you from registering for classes. Learn more about holds on student accounts.

SHARE your voice.

As an NIU student we need your voice.  Help the university by taking the next few minutes to use your voice and complete the NIU campus climate survey called SHARE.  The confidential information gathered through the SHARE survey will help NIU provide you and other Huskies with specific support and resources.

Completing the survey gives you a chance to win a $20 Starbucks gift card.

Take the SHARE survey.

Campus Dining would love your feedback!

We value your feedback and look forward to the opportunity to grow from it. If you’re able to take a moment to complete a brief survey regarding your most recent experience at one of our residential dining or retail dining locations, we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

Undergraduate research funding available.

Are you looking to get paid to do research? The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning supports a culture of undergraduate research by offering two funding opportunities: the Student Engagement Fund (SEF) and the Research, Engagement and Academic Diversity Grant (READ). Both opportunities allow students to get paid to do research with a faculty member and/or receive project supply and travel funds. This is a great opportunity to work with faculty on campus and get hands-on learning within your field of interest. For more information or to apply visit Undergraduate Research Funding.

Student researchers would like your thoughts on Final Exams.

For over 80% of college students, final exams are seen as the biggest stressor for negatively affecting their mental health, wellbeing and grades. This survey proposes the idea of harmless final exams that would not negatively affect students' grades. You'll be asked to provide your name, year in school, major and two additional questions asking those who oppose harmless final exams their reasoning for doing so and how harmless finals can benefit students at NIU. The survey should take less that five minutes to complete.
