Hi Huskies!
Spring break may not be here yet, but at least we’ve had a glimpse of a new season this week. Make some time to get outside for a walk — or plan a nature hike with Outdoor Adventures!
As assignments come due at the halfway point of the semester, remember that you can reserve quiet study rooms at the Holmes Student Center and Founders Memorial Library.
Here are some ways to be ready for the term’s second half and the new academic year:
Shape your experience
At NIU, we’re already looking ahead to Homecoming, a key tradition early in the fall semester. Our staff across campus want to involve the voices of Huskies in creating this weeklong event.
All it takes to provide your feedback and imagination is five minutes on a quick survey. Don’t miss this opportunity to tell us what you’d like to see at Homecoming 2022!
The Student Government Association is looking for Huskies to represent the student body. Drop into a candidate meeting this evening or on Friday to learn more if you’re interested in running!
Support your wellbeing
The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning has a library of tips for academic success. Given the time of the semester, as well as distressing world events, I hope you’re also paying attention to your wellbeing outside the classroom.
On Friday, I shared resources including the Center for Student Assistance, Counseling and Consultation Services, and International Student and Scholar Services.
There are many specialized options for support available to you, too! Try an activity like mindfulness mediation at a virtual drop-in with Student Wellness on Monday evening.
Explore connections at the Diversity and Cultural Resource Centers across NIU. If you commute to campus or are an active or former service member, we’re here for your unique needs!
Have fun and a break
It’s important to take time to celebrate who you are and what you’ve accomplished. Consider submitting a musical performance or visual artwork that explores your cultural background for inclusion at an NIU event later this month!
The deadline to apply is Thursday at 11:59 p.m., and Huskies who are selected will receive a $75 stipend. Students’ work will be showcased at a celebration of diversity on March 23 at the HSC.
Keep an eye on the events calendar for more opportunities to get involved on campus! As you know, NIU has reduced masking requirements on campus, but please continue to make responsible decisions as you socialize or travel over your upcoming week away from classes.
This may be the last time you hear from me before spring break starts in just a few days the week of March 13. But I’ll be in touch later this month, and my team is always here to help.
Go Huskies!
