STEM IE

The STEM Interest and Engagement Project (STEM IE) studied youth interest and engagement in summer STEM camps using a unique methodology. The findings from the research study are presented for each of the focus areas of the study (Activity Settings, Program Quality, Making Content Relevant, Supporting Youth Agency, and Fostering Interest in STEM). Practical implications and resources for out of school time (OST) and informal science learning (ISL) programs and practitioners were drawn from the findings from the STEM IE and other related studies. Practical implications and resources, including professional development materials, are disseminated under each of the focus areas. The findings and implications can be accessed by clicking on the focus area descriptors on the banner. An About section describes the project in detail and the Resources section contains general resources of interest to the ISL and OST STEM communities.

The project was funded by the National Science Foundation’s Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program.
