Human Resource Services preparing for new welcome event.

Human Resource Services is preparing to launch a monthly Huskie Welcome event for new employees this fall.  This event will highlight what it means to be a Huskie and provide new employees with resources and assistance in acclimating to campus.

As part of the event, we are considering hosting a Resource Fair which would allow groups, departments, and/or offices across campus to share information about their services and resources for employees.

Areas that participate would need to commit to sending an employee from their area to staff the fair for a few hours each month (tentative dates are Aug. 21, Sept. 11, Sept. 20, Oct. 16, Nov. 13, and Dec. 11, 2023).

If your area would be interested in participating, please complete our survey by July 17.

NIU Art Museum’s “Art to Lend” selection period open now through July 14

The NIU Art Museum’s annual “Art to Lend” 2023 selection period is now open for faculty and staff on campus. This annual service allows individuals and departments to enhance their private offices and the administrative areas of the university by renting original works of art. Artwork enriches the university’s welcoming nature for students, faculty and staff as well as brightens the experience for public visitors and provides daily enjoyment in the workplace. Each work meant for public display was carefully selected by museum staff for its broad appeal and its ability to be on loan for up to eight years. Learn more by visiting the NIU Arts Blog.

Parking permits now on sale.

Parking permits for the next academic year (2023-2024) are now available online. Current annual parking permits expire August 15, 2023. Parking permits are virtual, so you will not receive a physical permit. Your license plate will act as your parking permit.

Our Customer Parking Portal provides convenient access to your parking account information. You can view your account, purchase a parking permit, make a ticket payment and update vehicle information.

A free parking option is also available. Those who take advantage of this option have a virtual green permit which allows for remote parking in Lot K on the west side of campus, just off Lincoln Highway.

For those only needing temporary parking, there are short-term parking options available. Short-term permits can be purchased online, and options include daily, weekly and monthly permits. Short-term parking is also available at pay stations and via the AMP Park mobile app.

You can visit our website for additional information. If you have any questions, please contact Parking Services at 815-753-1045 or parking@niu.edu.

Deadlines

Friday, Sept. 15: Call for Papers deadline - Treinta y tres: Celebrating and Contesting Afro-Latinidad

Year-end Financial Deadlines

The following deadlines have been established to allow adequate processing time to successfully close FY23 and prepare financial statements to meet the University’s reporting deadline with the State of Illinois Comptroller’s Office. By not doing so, exposes the University to audit findings related to improper year-end cutoff and inadequate control over good/services provided prior to approved contract/purchase order, among others. The cooperation of all departments is needed to keep to this schedule to ensure a successful close process.

  • July 14, 2023: All FY23 approved invoices, check requests, and travel reimbursement requests due to Accounts Payable Services
  • July 14, 2023:Year-end cutoff for posting all journal activity for transactions occurring in June from all fund sources due to General Ledger.

It is very important to note that transactions required to be processed in FY23 must be received by the requested due dates (do not hold FY23 documents even if the deadline has passed).

Should you have any questions about the year-end process or initiating FY24 requisitions, please contact the Controller’s Office at (ControllerOffice@niu.edu) or Procurement Services and Contract Management at abridges3@niu.edu for further assistance.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance to ensure a successful close out of FY23.
