Holmes Student Center announces summer hours
|
HSC Summer Hours from Monday, May 11 to Sunday, Aug. 16. Sunday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The HSC will secure all entrances with either doors being completely locked or only accessible with a valid OneCard. Hotel South may be accessed without a OneCard from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
HSC Door Security (Beginning May 11):

- Hotel South: Remains open during open hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
- Auto-lock doors secured: North and West bus loop with valid OneCard.
- Locked: East, Old South, West (north Sandburg entrance).
- ADA East ramp entrance will be available by calling 753-1924 for assistance.

- Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25; Closed for Memorial Day weekend.
- Friday, June 19; Juneteenth Celebration; Closed.

Women's Basketball Kids Camp Registration is now open.
|
Our kids camp will run June 29 - July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The camp is for both boys and girls entering grades 1-8. Cost is $175, but parents that work at NIU can use the discount code "NIU Employee" for $25 off or discount code "NIU Sibling" for $50 off additional registrations if they are signing up multiple children.

Transact (OneCard) System Maintenance
|
A Transact OneCard System maintenance upgrade is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 21, 2026. While the system is under maintenance, students, faculty and staff will experience a disruption to OneCard use for certain amenities on campus, including printing, dining, OneCard services, new or reprovisioning of mobile ID, and usage of Huskie Bucks. Below you will find additional information.

- Retail Dining (Starbucks and Huskie Grill) - Huskie Bucks sales down; able to pay with credit or debit card.
- Drink and Snack Vending Machines - Huskie Bucks sales down; able to pay with credit or debit card.
- Off-campus Huskie Bucks Vendor - Huskie Bucks sales down; able to pay with credit or debit card.
- Printing - Personal printing is unavailable.
- Mobile ID/OneCard Office - All downloading of mobile ID or printing of physical ID will be unavailable; Huskie Bucks deposits and sales unavailable.

Housing and Residential Services is seeking applications from current NIU employees for Assistant Director β Residential Life Curriculum and Training. This leadership role will help to provide developmental supervision for professional and paraprofessional residence hall staff in assigned complexes. The Assistant Director is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating leadership programs related to special interest and learning communities, and paraprofessional staff selection and training.
The Assistant Director is also responsible for working with Community Advisors and other unique department paraprofessional staff within the context of the NIU Housing and Residential Services Curriculum.

The Assistant Director is also responsible for providing leadership in the design, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive summer operation including residential students and camp and conference guests. Calling all Supportive Professional Staff Employees

The Supportive Professional Staff Council is seeking nominations for SPS Representatives and Alternates to the SPS Council. Representatives who are currently on the council whose terms expire in 2026 and others who have previously served are eligible to run again. Alternates whose term have not expired are eligible to run for a Representative seat.
This year is also a year for nominating and electing the Council President for a two-year term.
You can look up your current Representatives and Alternates online on the Representatives and Alternates - NIU - Supportive Professional Staff Council.
If you believe you, or an SPS colleague you know, could help contribute to the mission of this Council please consider participating in this nomination process. GIVE Circle Facilitator Training
|
Become a Growing through Inclusive Vulnerability and Empathy (GIVE) Circle Facilitator.
GIVE Circles are opportunities for participants, whether students, faculty or staff, to engage in deep listening and conversation of shared experiences related to various topics. They are moments to build connections, understanding and empathy amongst those participating. GIVE Circles can play an important role in bringing the campus community together to explore our common humanity.
As a facilitator, you would be an important part of creating and maintaining spaces on campus for students, faculty and staff to establish self-agency and cultivate a sense of belonging.

The month of April is closing for all financial reporting activity at noon Monday, May 11, 2026. Journals not posted at that time will go into May business. Submit April journals before end of business on Friday, May 8. Final April reports are scheduled to be available Tuesday May 12, 2026. In addition, May reports are scheduled to be available Wednesday, May 13, 2026. These and other important dates can be found on the Controller's Office website.

Fermilab teams up with NIU to launch quantum science program
|
The U.S. Department of Energyβs Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with NIU, officially launching a collaborative, cutting-edge quantum science program for graduate students. The inaugural class will begin in the fall semester of 2026.
