New Accessibility Website Launched

University Marketing is pleased to announce the launch of NIU’s new Accessibility website. The site provides expanded resources for faculty and staff, with a particular focus on digital accessibility.
Updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which address the accessibility of digital content, take effect April 24, 2026. These changes will affect the work we all do. The new website is designed to support and complement the Digital Accessibility Steering Committee’s training and guidance on the upcoming requirements.

Applications Now Being Accepted for the 2026-27 Staff Professional Development Academy Cohort.

The Staff Professional Development Academy is a yearlong, cohort-style program that both promotes professional development and creates a network of leaders across campus. We aim to have diverse cohorts with representation across campus and encourage staff at all levels to apply. Great Colleges to Work For Survey is Underway

All faculty and staff are encouraged to complete The Great Colleges to Work for Survey. The invitation to complete the survey will be sent to your NIU email account from surveys@modernthink.net on Monday, March 16, 2026. The survey takes 10-15 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous and confidential. The deadline to complete the survey is midnight on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Proposals are now being accepted for our 119th Homecoming Grant Competition.
Do you have an idea for a homecoming event that you would like to see on campus, or want to enhance an existing homecoming event? The Homecoming Executive Committee invites all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to submit formal proposals for review! Our 119th Homecoming celebration will take place the week of Oct. 5 through 11, 2026. The deadline to submit a grant proposal is Friday, April 3, 2026.

Please consider volunteering your time at these events to help make them successful for our graduates, families and guests. Volunteers are critical to creating fun, organized and celebratory events.

The program opens with a brief presentation on punk’s role in responding to societal issues, followed by an intimate acoustic set and Q&A with Tim Rogner of Allister and Hot Alice. Experience an engaging blend of music, insight and conversation, unplugged and unfiltered.

Running from April 7 through April 11, the festival will transform the NIU campus into a vibrant cultural crossroads, featuring traditional masterworks alongside world-premiere compositions.

2026 AI Curricular Innovation Grants
|
NIU faculty are invited to apply for the 2026 AI Curricular Innovation Grants, a competitive grant program supporting course redesign projects that thoughtfully integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and learning. This year’s program focuses specifically on AI-enabled course redesign. The grants will support faculty who wish to incorporate AI into course design, assignments, assessments or instructional practices in ways that strengthen student learning, engagement and career readiness.

University Grants Academy Is Now Accepting Applications for Spring 2027
|
The Office of Research Development (ORD) invites faculty to apply for the spring 2027 University Grants Academy(UGA) by 4:30 p.m., April 15, 2026.
UGA is a semester-long experience designed to increase faculty capacity to obtain externally funded grants. Participants develop a complete, submission-ready proposal for submission at the next available deadline and within six months of completing the program.

Save the Date: Well-being Fair April 16, 2026
|
The Presidential Commission on Well-being proudly presents NIU’s annual Well-being Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 16 in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom.
Faculty, staff and students are all invited to attend and engage in a variety of free prizes, DIY self-care kits and opportunities to learn about your well-being. Campus and community partners will provide attendees with interactive activities, services and information focused on “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Spirit.” A release for staff will be granted and more information will be announced in the following weeks.

The month of March is closing for all financial reporting activity at noon on Thursday, April 9th, 2026. Journals not posted at that time will go into April business. Submit March journals before end of business on Wednesday, April 8th. Final March reports are scheduled to be available Friday April 10th, 2026.
