EMMC is rolling out new email templates.

The Division of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications (EMMC) is rolling out new email templates for official university announcements. The updated templates are mobile responsive and are designed to give recipients a better understanding of which division, department or office is sending the communication. Below are examples of the new templates that you will be seeing in your mailbox soon.

Mission Possible Tutoring available for employees' children.

NIU faculty and staff can receive free, online tutoring and homework help for their children in first through sixth grade thanks to the partnership between the College of Education and the Employee Assistance Program. 

 

Mission Possible Tutoring and Homework Help connects elementary school students with teacher-licensure candidates who are pursuing Master of Arts in Teaching degrees through the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. 

 

These services are available via Microsoft Teams with weekly scheduled sessions, 4 and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for 30 to 60 minutes, starting the week of Feb. 13 through May 5, 2023.

MyNIU Student System maintenance scheduled.

The MyNIU Student System will be unavailable on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 6 to 10 a.m. due to system maintenance.

 

FY23 Annual Commercial Card Refresher Training

This required training is for all JPMC PaymentNet users – cardholders, transaction approvers, proxies, etc. Training will be conducted through Blackboard and will begin February 1, 2023 and end on March 3, 2023. This year’s training will also include a link to the Information Security Awareness training: Basics of Credit Card Security. Please note: All training modules must be completed during the specified timeline to remain an active program participant or your card and/or card approving rights will be suspended. More detailed information will be emailed to the user’s email address on file in PaymentNet.

 

Ellington's Restaurant reopens Feb. 14.

Huskies, be sure to mark your calendar! Ellington’s Restaurant will reopen its doors Tuesday, Feb. 14. Our hospitality and tourism management students will once again be able to showcase their culinary skills as they prepare new and exciting lunch buffets that you, your friends and your colleagues will be sure to enjoy. Service will take place every Tuesday through April 25 with the exception of March 14. When available, menus will be uploaded to the Ellington’s website. We thank you in advance for your continued support as our students gain hands-on experience. No reservations required. Dining Dollars, Huskies Bucks, and debit/credit accepted.

 

NIU joins Higher Education Recruitment Consortium.

Human Resource Services is  pleased to announce that Northern Illinois University is now a member of the Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) which advances equity and inclusion in higher education recruitment and retention. HERC has a membership of over 700 colleges, universities, hospitals, research labs, government agencies and related organizations committed to diversifying the pipeline of faculty, staff and executives in academia.

 

one of the most significant features HERC offers is its HERConnect, an online community with other HERC members from other universities where collaboration and information sharing are made possible. This online community of higher education professionals provides webinars addressing employee recruitment and retention topics with a focus on diversity, professional development opportunities, annual conferences and job fairs, and the opportunity to make connections and engage with other members. Learn more by visiting the HRS Newsblog.

 

Policy Library Update – New Policy

A new policy is open to review and comment for a 30-day period. This provides the NIU community the opportunity to consider and respond to the revised policies before they take effect. The policy is:

  • Clery Act Compliance Policy.

To submit a comment, go to the policy library website. The new policy will appear at the center of the screen. Click on Comment on New/Renew Policies. You will be able to review the policy and provide your comments. All comments are due by Thursday, Feb. 23. Deadlines

Financial Month End Close

The month of January is closing for all financial reporting activity at noon Thursday, Feb. 9. Journals not posted at that time will go into February business. Submit January journals before end of business Wednesday, Feb. 8. Final January reports are scheduled to be available Friday, Feb. 10. In addition, February reports are scheduled to be available Monday, Feb. 13. These and other important dates can be found at the Controller's Office website.
