Accelerator and Beam Lab

The 2,000 sqr ft Accelerator & Beam Laboratory (ABL) is located in LaTourette Hall rooms 109 and 110. The laboratory includes a clean room, ultrashort laser systems, several low-energy electron sources. Such an on-campus facility is ideally suited to develop components for experiments to be installed on accelerator facilities at collaborating institutions. The laboratory is currently used to develop field-emission electron sources, and laser systems.

High-Brightness Electron Source Lab

The High Brightness Electron source Lab (HBESL) is located at the Illinois Research Accelerator Center (IARC) on the Fermilab campus in Batavia, IL.

We have completed experiments at the following facility:

Facilities at collaborating institutions

We currently carry laboratory experiments at the following facilities:

• Argonne Wakefield Accelerator (AWA): phase-space manipulations based on transverse-to-longitudinal phase space exchange, beam diagnostics R&D, laser shaping techniques, production of tailored electron beams.
• Fermilab: flat-beam generation, development of X-ray and gamma-ray sources, "smart" beam-based control systems.
• Photo Injector Test Facility at DESY, Zeuthen site: ballistic micro-buncher using self-field.

We have completed experiments at the following facility:

• The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY): electron-beam shaping using multiple-frequency linacs.
