Carole Minor is the recipient of the 1998 Wilma D. Stricklin Award. She is a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education; and a faculty associate in the Women's Studies Program. She has been at NIU since 1981.
"Besides being a visionary leader, Dr. Minor is a great educator as well as a great model for her fellow female counterparts," said one of her nominators.
Some of Minor's accomplishments on campus include:
Designing and helping conduct an assessment of the campus climate for women in all employment classifications. Contributing to the research and writing involved with the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women's (PCSW) report to the president concerning the American Council of Education's recommendations to campuses. Advocating for the relocation of University Resources for Women to its current location and expansion of its programs. Establishing the PCSW's Salary Equity subcommittee and its task force on family leave. Serving on the Provost's Advisory Committee on Gender Equity Hiring Plan.
