Course Description

This course focuses on building depth of knowledge of GIS tools, data structures, and modeling. In particular, we will extend your ability to handle challenging spatial analysis problems, both working independently and as part of a team. The technological focus of the course is on ESRI's ArcGIS suite of products, although the techniques apply to any GIS software package.

Course Objectives

  • Refine skills to produce maps and visualizations in support of decision making
  • Develop techniques to automate analyses and models, especially using ModelBuilder
  • Improve understanding of databases and SQL
  • Introduce concepts of geospatial scientific programming using Python
  • Introduction to the wider literature of Geographic Information Science
