It's Time to Waive or Enroll in Our Student Insurance Program.
Students taking 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed $1,378.00 for student health insurance for fall 2024. You can find more information regarding the plan on our website. If you have comparable insurance and have not yet canceled the plan, the United Healthcare Student Resources is now open until Sept. 30, 2024. This is an online process only. Once you complete the waiver, and it’s accepted the charge for insurance will be removed from your student account.
The waiver deadline is firm, therefore if you do not waive the student health insurance by Sept. 30, you will be enrolled for semester coverage under the plan, and no reimbursements will be given. Question can be emailed to studentinsurance@niu.edu.
Students taking less than 9 credit hours are not automatically enrolled in our student health insurance program. However, if eligible, you do have the opportunity to voluntarily enroll for coverage. The fall open enrollment period for our optional dental, vision, teledoc and health insurance plans administered by Benefit Partners Technology is open until Oct. 31, 2024. Learn more about enrolling in our student health insurance program.

"Our mascot is really appropriate for the experience you will get here at NIU. As a Huskie, I definitely feel as though I have always been part of the pack. During my time here at NIU, I never felt like I needed to figure out something alone, or that I wouldn't have anyone to turn to for help. We really are just like Huskies in a pack that make one another better and watch out for one another. Go Huskies!"

"Enjoy your college experience. Make sure to keep up with your coursework but remember there is a necessary balance between academics and enjoyment. Find events on campus and attend things you are interested in that sound fun. It’s also a great way to meet new people and make a good social life."
