The principal investigator decides to store data on the network. Although the PI feels it is necessary to have the assistance of the LAN Administrator, the PI intends to implement one of a series of strategies to protect participant confidentiality.

These are some possible outcomes:

select1 button

The LAN Administrator will have access to files in order to perform regularly scheduled backups, but not administrative rights to open the data files (no assigned password).

select2 button

The LAN Administrator will have access to files in order to perform regularly scheduled backups, but will not have special application program files to open data files, so data is protected.

select3 button

The LAN Administrator will have administrative rights to access limited parts of the raw data. Greater administrative rights will be available to the PI and staff conducting analyses.
