A Message from NIU Board Chair Dennis Barsema re: President Freeman’s Contract Extension

Dear Huskie Community, Today, the Northern Illinois University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to extend President Lisa C. Freeman’s contract, beginning July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2025. This is an exciting day, and I’m proud of the way the trustees continue to come together to ensure that our university has the best leadership in place. A leader with a clear vision, strategy and heart for our entire Huskie community. A leader like Dr. Freeman. Today’s meeting made clear that the board has full trust and confidence in President Freeman and her ability to advance the university’s goals. I look forward to the university’s continued success and contributions to our region, state and world. The entire Huskie community has my heartfelt appreciation and respect for how challenging this year has been and for how you’ve been able to persevere.
