Earn a Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) transcript notation! Graduate students can earn a notation on their transcripts that they are certified in the responsible conduct of research. Attend seven sessions of your choice over a two-year period and participate in an online discussion forum after each session to earn this credential. Apply to be a Graduate Student Judge for the
Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE)
|

|
The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning is selecting 10-15 graduate student judges for the Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) on April 30, 2024. This is a professional development opportunity through which graduate students will gain valuable training and experience geared towards assessing undergraduate research accurately and constructively. Selected applicants will participate in a 2-hour training to prepare them to serve as a judge, including learning valuable skills in providing feedback and culturally informed and respectful engagement. Benefits for students include a complimentary luncheon provided by the NIU Foundation during CURE, relevant experience for professional portfolio, LinkedIn Badge (Undergraduate Research Judge), and a line on their curriculum vita: “Selected as judge for the 2024 NIU Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement.” Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis between Feb. 1 and March 22. Apply to attend the AAAS CASE Workshop
|
The Graduate School in partnership with the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships and the Office of Federal Relations will sponsor one NIU graduate student studying in a STEM field to attend the 2024 AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) workshop. This program is the nation’s premier science and technology policy and advocacy training workshop for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students. During the workshop, students will learn about the structure and organization of Congress, the federal budget and appropriations processes, and tools for effective science communication and civic engagement. Students will participate in interactive seminars about policymaking and communication and make Congressional office visits. To apply, contact Sarah Lindell at slindell@niu.edu. Apply for the Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois Fellowship
|
Applications are now being accepted for IBHE’s Diversifying Higher Education Faculty in Illinois (DFI) fellowships for the 2024-2025 academic year. The DFI Fellowship Program is a subsidized program administered by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, with the goal of increasing the number of minority faculty at Illinois colleges and universities. Master’s and doctoral students who have career goals in higher education are eligible to apply. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. New! International Student Ambassadors Program
|
International students encounter challenges not often faced by U.S.-born students. From visa restrictions, travel logistics and cultural differences to time and distance away from family, it can be overwhelming. And, for even the most experienced student, much must happen quickly to be ready to study. Fortunately, a new program at NIU that assists international students in making the transition is off to a strong start. Read more about the International Student Ambassadors Program.
