Planning Team

The initial planning team is very important for the success of the EMS implementation, and therefore, the team should first engage in some team building activities to get to know each other, individual skills, and what each team member can contribute to the effort. It is also important to ensure that their supervisors are willing to allow the team members to work on the EMS effort and accommodate their workload accordingly. In the initial stages, individual team members may have to contribute more time than in the later stages when EMS-related activities become part of everyone’s regular activities.

After initial team building activities, everyone in the team should become familiar with the EMS implementation process, organizational needs, environmental goals, etc. A team leader with project management skills should be selected or assigned to lead the team. The first major task for the team leader is to identify and assign to team members some initial tasks for conducting a preliminary review of the existing system chosen for EMS implementation.
