Analysis of Preliminary Review

After the preliminary review tasks have been completed and the team members have prepared reports of their findings, the team should meet and analyze the findings. The analysis should focus on:

  • Identifying areas of the organization for EMS implementation – that is, decide which system or subsystem should be selected for EMS implementation.
  • Selecting areas that can demonstrate early success – by selecting areas that can quickly demonstrate the benefits of EMS, team members may see the results and be motivated, and administrators may also see the benefits and support the effort more.

After the results of the preliminary review have been analyzed, the team should discuss resources (people, budget, equipment, etc.) needed to undertake the EMS effort, and develop tasks and deadlines. This information should then be presented to the administration and the necessary support and resources should be obtained. Administration’s approval for the EMS effort and commitment of resources are key for initiating the effort formally.
