Notices

Campus Flu Clinics scheduled for Sept. 20 and Oct. 17.

NIU Campus Flu Clinics for 2023 are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 and
Tuesday, Oct. 17 in our Holmes Student Center Ballroom.

As of this date, the Health Department only has 300 vaccines available for the Sept. 20 event, so it is important for you to register by going to 2023 Flu Clinic Registration and Information. On this website is a client form that you may download and complete prior to the day of your scheduled appointment to bring with you. This form is required. Also on the website is additional information that you should read. If more vaccines become available, we will update the booking app to allow for more appointments.

If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, go to your confirmation email you received and scroll down to the button “Reschedule.”

Employee flu vaccines are free to all employees covered under any of the state of Illinois insurance plans with NIU under their wellness benefit. No insurance card is necessary unless you are a retiree or spouse of a retiree.

If you are an employee who opted out of any state of Illinois insurance plans, the DeKalb County Health Department will submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement of the flu vaccine. If they do not cover it, you will be billed $38. Please bring an insurance card.

Students, dependents and spouses need to bring a medical insurance card or pay $38 for the flu vaccine the day of your appointment. HMOs will not reimburse. You are responsible to find out if the flu vaccine is covered under your plan. If your plan does not cover the administered vaccine, you will be billed $38. You may reach out to the DeKalb County Health Department with questions about the vaccine or insurance at 815-758-6673, or if you have any other questions, please contact NIU Employee Well-being at 815-753-9191 or email ksmith12@niu.edu.

Office of Research Development introduces new online platform for internal competitions

The Office of Research Development (ORD) in the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships will launch a new software platform this fall for submission of proposals to internal competitions. ORD will conduct multiple internal competitions in the InfoReady platform, including the next Research and Artistry internal grant competition which opens in September. Please contact ord@niu.edu with questions.

The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning (OSEEL) is also signing on as an InfoReady user. OSEEL will begin using the system for their Undergraduate Research Funding Programs including Student Engagement Funds and the Research, Engagement and Academic Diversity grant. The application for the spring 2024 cycle launches in mid-September. Please contact ugresearch@niu.edu with questions.

InfoReady provides a single access point for all activities completed by applicants, reviewers and competition administrators, and will increase the ease and efficiency of internal competitions. This new portal will be accessible to NIU users via single sign-on using NIU credentials.

Individuals interested in accessing InfoReady for hosting their own competitions should contact Kellie Dyslin in the Office of Research Development.

Register your department for the Student Involvement Fair.

As the new academic year approaches, we’re excited to announce our upcoming Involvement Fair, which is a fantastic opportunity for your department to showcase its activities and engage with students.

Our Involvement Fair takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 5-7 in the MLK Commons. This event aims to connect students with various campus departments and student organizations, helping them discover ways to get involved and make the most of their university experience.

If your department is interested in participating and would like to reserve a table, please complete the registration form by Aug. 25. We encourage you to bring brochures, displays and any materials that will help students learn more about the opportunities your department offers. This is a chance to connect with students, share your passion and foster a sense of community within our campus.

Confirmation emails will be sent one week before the event. Student Involvement will provide a table and two chairs — departments and student organizations may bring a tent if needed. In case of rain, the Involvement Fair will be canceled that day and not moved inside. For any questions, please email Student Involvement at studentinvolvement@niu.edu.

Disability Resource Center introduces new online portal for faculty and instructors.

Beginning this fall semester, students' Letters of Accommodation can be viewed and accessed on the new Disability Resource Center Portal. Faculty and instructors can also view and approve testing requests students initiate with the DRC; approve test dates and times; provide details regarding materials needed; and upload exams for students.

The new portal can be accessed using the credentials used to access your MyNIU account and you can learn how to use the portal by watching this tutorial.

Volunteer during Alumni Day at the Huskie Food Pantry and Huskie Closet.

Join your fellow Huskies for Alumni Day at the Huskie Food Pantry and Huskie Closet on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Volunteers will help sort food/clothes, serve students, and keep the pantry and closet in working order through one of the two shifts available that day (8:30 to 11 a.m. for the pantry and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. for pantry and closet). Food and clothing donations are also needed and accepted. Contact Liz McKee, M.S.Ed. ’14, at Lmckee1@niu.edu or 815-753-7400 if interested or for more information.

Since its inception in 2021, NIU Impact has helped raise over $286,000 from 1,877 total gifts. To date, 67.5% of projects have reached their fundraising goal.
