Travel Voucher Deadline and Status Review
|
OnBase travel voucher notifications have been updated. Weekly email reminders will now be sent for all outstanding travel vouchers and will be directed to the appropriate individual based on voucher status.
Effective July 15, 2026, travel vouchers that remain outstanding for more than a year will be considered stale-dated and may be canceled by Accounts Payable Services. Those vouchers will be marked as “Expired.”
Please review the status of your travel voucher in the Travel Voucher Portal. If the voucher status is anything other than “Completed,” review the comments section to ensure all requested actions have been addressed prior to submission. The traveler or preparer may also cancel vouchers as needed.
If you have trouble accessing your voucher or have questions about the submission or approval process, please contact Accounts Payable Services at AccountsPayableSrvs@niu.edu. We will respond as soon as possible.

Fiscal Year 2026 Due Dates for Accounting Transactions
|
We are preparing to wrap up another fiscal year here at NIU and it is important that we finalize the university’s Fiscal Year 2026 financial statements in a timely manner. Please ensure that all FY 2026 transactions for your department are properly classified and submitted to the Accounting Office by the deadlines listed below:
|
- June 17, 2026: Year-end cutoff for posting all journal activity occurring prior to June from all fund sources due to General Ledger at JournalEntries@niu.edu.
- June 30, 2026: All FY 2026 cash and/or checks received must be deposited at the Bursar’s Office in Swen Parson Hall 235 and must be made in accordance with Bursar’s Office policy.
- July 15, 2026: All FY 2026 approved invoices, check requests and travel reimbursement requests due to Accounts Payable Services at AccountsPayableSrvs@niu.edu or Lowden Hall 107.
- July 15, 2026: Year-end cutoff for posting all journal activity occurring in June from all fund sources due to General Ledger at JournalEntries@niu.edu.
|
It is very important to note that transactions required to be processed in FY 2026 must be received by the requested due dates (do not hold FY 2026 documents even if the deadline has passed).
Please review all transactions and balances in applicable cost centers, paying particular attention to appropriate cutoff for transactions occurring during the months of June and July. Note that all goods and services received prior to June 30, 2026, must be recorded as an expenditure or accrued as a liability in the current fiscal year. Goods and services received after June 30, 2026, must be recorded as an expenditure in FY 2027. University sales and services performed prior to June 30, 2026, must be recorded as revenue in the current fiscal year. University sales or services to be performed after June 30, 2026, must be recorded as revenue in F Y 2027. If you have any questions concerning how transactions should be recorded, please contact an Accounting Office representative.
This is also a good time to review any accruals in your cost centers to ensure they are up to date. All accrued balances should have support justifying why the amounts are accrued (receivable, payable, deferred, etc.) as of June 30, 2026. The Controller’s Office is responsible for all tuition accruals, and no adjustments should be made to tuition accounts. Please reach out if you have any questions.
We appreciate your full cooperation as we work to ensure a successful close-out of FY 2026. Should you have any questions about the year-end process, please email the Controller’s Office at ControllerOffice@niu.edu for assistance.

WNIJ partnership with Rockford’s Kennedy Middle School helps create authentic learning experiences for students
|
Thanks to a partnership with WNIJ 89.5, eighth-grade language arts students at Rockford’s Kennedy Middle School turned classroom lessons into hands-on media experience. Guided by experienced WNIJ reporters, the students practiced interviewing, active listening and audio production. They put their language arts skills into action with real-world audiences and, in the process, developed empathy, self-awareness, resilience and creativity.
