Comprehensive Review of Information Technology at NIU
Feb. 15, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

As shared in February of 2020, we intended to launch a comprehensive IT Review at NIU during that Spring semester to provide insight into strengths and areas of opportunity for Information Technology at NIU. While we were successful in conducting campus wide survey during Spring 2020, the COVID-19 Pandemic caused us to pause the effort and reconsider the timing and scope for the remainder of the review.

We are happy to announce that NIU is engaging an external partner– Transforming Solutions, Inc. (TSI) – to work with the university community and complete the information technology review this Spring semester. Dan Feely, BS – OMIS Class of 1985, is President (and Founder) of TSI and we are excited to partner with a proud Huskie and his firm. This review will examine NIU’s inventory of IT services, products, and infrastructure available to campus. Its goal is to ensure the needed skills and offerings are available to campus and properly align with the institution’s strategic objectives.

Input from the NIU campus community remains a key component of this review. As COVID-19 continues to drastically alter technology needs and opportunities throughout the university, we will be issuing an updated survey in the coming weeks, and those results will be combined with results from the previous survey. Additionally, TSI will be meeting with members of our student, faculty, staff, and university leadership populations to solicit further data.

When their review is complete, TSI will produce a report and make recommendations on how we can enact changes to further align the university’s IT service portfolio with the university’s mission, vision and values. University leadership will look at the results to determine if there are any items that can be addressed immediately. Key findings and recommendations will inform the University’s overall IT plans moving forward.

We value your input and look forward to working with you. Together, we will ensure NIU is meeting technology needs for all students, faculty, and staff as they engage our systems to pursue coursework and research aspirations, navigate campus, and conduct daily operations.
