Grants Time and Effort Reporting Reminder

In early November, Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) will distribute Effort Statements (aka Time and Effort Reports, Effort Certifications, etc.) for the period Jan. 1, 2022 through June 30, 2022.

Effort Statements are required for any NIU faculty, staff or student receiving pay from a federally funded award. Completing Effort Statements is a requirement of federal funding. Hourly employees verify their time via timesheets and do not receive Effort Statements.

Colleges and divisions will receive all Effort Statements for distribution to their faculty, staff and students. Statements will be due back to SPA by Dec. 5, 2022. SPA will review any corrections to reports and will work with the principal investigator and their department to make any necessary adjustments.

See NIU’s Effort Reporting Policy to learn more about this requirement. For questions, please contact Dara Little, assistant vice president for Research and Sponsored Programs/director of Sponsored Programs Administration.

Blackboard courses from fall 2016, spring 2017 and summer 2017 to be deleted beginning on Dec. 1.

In accordance with NIU’s course retention guidelines for Blackboard, only the last five years of courses are retained in Blackboard. The Division of IT will begin removing courses from the 2016-2017 academic year this fall. Shells and Organizations will not be affected at this time.

All courses from fall 2016, spring 2017 and summer 2017 will be deleted beginning Dec. 1, 2022. Courses from fall 2017 to fall 2022 will be retained in Blackboard.

You may save any courses you wish to retain before the course removal process begins by exporting the courses from Blackboard. You may also download the Grade Center if you wish to retain your grades for your records. Learn more about downloading the Grade Center in Original or Ultra Course View.

If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to contact the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning at 815-753-0595 or citl@niu.edu. From NIU Today

Science on a Sphere

Science on a Sphere creates worlds of possibilities

On the first floor of the Founders Memorial Library hangs what may be the world’s largest disco ball.

It also may be the most detailed representation ever of Huskie hometowns around the world. Or a high- resolution view of the surface of Mars, Jupiter or any of the other planets. In fact, it can be all those things and much, much more, says Dean of NIU Libraries Fred Barnhart. Read more.

Vilaya Sirivong

Named NIU’s 2022 Lincoln Laureate, Vilaya Sirivong empowers others

Vilaya “Ling” Sirivong set her sights on NIU at the age of 16.

She knew then she wanted to be the first in her family not only to go to college, but to study abroad. Thousands of miles away in her homeland of Laos, she applied for the university’s Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program. Read more.
