The Center for the Study of Family Violence and Sexual Assault (a.k.a. "The Center" or the CSFVSA) is dedicated to conducting research designed to understand the diverse causes and consequences of various forms of interpersonal violence, including child maltreatment, intimate partner violence and sexual assault. The center strives to provide an empirical foundation that promotes accurate assessment, as well as effective prevention and treatment of interpersonal violence and related conditions, such as post-traumatic stress.
Specific Objectives
- Developing theoretical models and research programs designed to increase our understanding of the perpetrators and victims of interpersonal violence (e.g., child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual assault).
- Developing and evaluating empirically-based assessment instruments and treatment protocols for perpetrators and victims of interpersonal violence. Encouraging faculty and students from diverse disciplines to conduct research on interpersonal violence, trauma, and related topics in an effort to increase attention to these topics and train the next generation of family violence researchers.
- Supporting multidisciplinary, programmatic, and empirical approaches to the understanding, assessment, and treatment of interpersonal violence and trauma.
