Northern Illinois University's Presidential Supportive Staff Awards for Excellence recognize and honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the university. The awardees each receive $1500 and a plaque in recognition of his/her accomplishments.
Nominations Due December 2, 2013
Each year, SPS Council awards a number of Certificates of Recognition to members of the Supportive Professional Staff who have achieved accomplishments in addition to their regular job duties. The Council initiated the certificates in 2003. Certificates are awarded for such accomplishments as: publication of books or articles; presentations or papers delivered at professional conferences; leadership in professional associations; honors and recognitions received; advanced academic degrees or professional certifications earned; and for extraordinary service to the NIU community and its students. In past years, the Council has awarded an average of 20-25 certificates. Supportive Professional Staff may self-nominate, or be nominated by another employee or by the SPS Council membership.

Each year, the Supportive Professional Staff Council recognizes one of its currently serving members for extraordinary service to the SPS Council and to the NIU Supportive Professional Staff, as well as the recipient's contribution to shared governance at NIU. Nominations are by current Council members of a serving Council member. This individual is recognized at the annual SPS recognition event.
Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center, with the support of Human Resource Services, offers a number of grants of up to $1,000 each to Supportive Professional Staff who are pursuing professional development that will benefit both the individuals in their professional growth as well as resulting in benefits to their units and NIU.
