The Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University offers neuroscience and behavior as a field of study in its program leading to a Ph.D. degree in psychology. The neuroscience and behavior area is designed to preparegraduate students for careers in research and teaching in academic, industry or other settings. Students receive extensive training with respect to theory and research in neuroscience, the biological bases of behavior, and animallearning and motivation.
A rigorous curriculum includes graduate course work in biopsychology, learning/plasticity, neuroanatomy,neuropharmacology, and research methodology. Flexibility in each student's program allows for an individualized program to be developed in conjunction with independent studies with individual faculty members.
