Major in CLCE

The Make a Difference Major: Community Leadership and Civic Engagement

One of the only freestanding degree programs of its kind in the United States, NIU’s Community Leadership and Civic Engagement (CLCE) program equips students to make a living while making a difference. A CLCE degree leads graduates on a pathway to careers in the nonprofit sector including rewarding jobs in management, administration, fundraising and communications.

CLCE is a hands-on, interdisciplinary program that draws from areas such as sociology, public administration, and business. Course offerings vary each semester to provide an array of requirements across departments. Our degree is designed to match your interests - CLCE major areas of emphasis include Advocacy, Arts & Humanities, Enterprise, Environmental, and Global Engagement

As a CLCE major, you'll gain practical experience. By working closely with faculty on community and nonprofit projects you will apply classroom theory to real-world situations while developing professional skills and experience.
