For the purposes of tuition, students are classified as residents or non-residents of the state of Illinois. To be considered a resident, an individual must have been a bona fide resident of the state of Illinois for a period of at least 6 consecutive months immediately preceding the beginning of any term for which he or she registers at the university -or- the individual's parents or guardians are bona fide residents of the state at the beginning of the term for which the student enrolls. To establish residency, specific documentation must be submitted to the Office of Registration and Records within 30 calendar days of the date designated on the official university calendar as the date regular classes begin.
Documentation and instructions on residency are available at Registration and Records.
