Academic Programs

The Southeast Asian Studies program at NIU is supported by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. As an undergraduate, you can earn either an undergraduate minor or a contract major. As a graduate student, you can earn a graduate certificate in Southeast Asian studies as part of the graduate program you have chosen. You may also sign up for the certificate as a graduate student at large. CSEAS supports Southeast Asian studies through Title VI Department of Education funding, which provides Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships to study Southeast Asian languages and area studies to both undergraduates and graduate students. CSEAS also offers weekly brownbag lectures and sponsors student club activities and cultural events throughout the year.
