Physics Teaching/Secondary Education

Two faculty members work closely with graduate students on methods of physics teaching and serve as supervisors of their student teaching at selected nearby high schools.

We offer two initial certification programs that are recognized by the state and which, upon successful completion, entitle a student to an Illinois Standard High School Certificate (6-12).

The two programs, physics or general science, can be completed to prepare an individual to teach at either the high school or middle school level. The requirements of the programs are in the process of changing significantly. The changes in the programs have been due to the department's continuing efforts to improve the quality of programs, the change in state certification procedures, and the pooling of resources between the various departments that offer secondary science certification programs.
