Northern Illinois University Division of International Affairs

October 12, 2023

Dear Huskies,

Over the past several days, we have watched the violence and loss of life in Israel and Palestine with deep concern and sadness. Our Division of International Affairs has extended support to students affiliated with the region. We also know that some members of our NIU community have deep connections to the region and that some have family and friends who are experiencing trauma and loss. Other members of our community have experienced armed conflict, and many of us feel despair as we see lives and communities destroyed. As Huskies, we are global citizens, and we know that events in one part of the world can impact our lives here. Therefore, the following campus resources are available to support members of our NIU community.

International students, faculty and staff can seek support from International Student and Scholar Services by calling 815-753-1346 or emailing isfo@niu.edu. This office can advise and advocate for you by acting as your liaison to campus partners and external government agencies alike.

Counseling and Consultation Services is available to you through a variety of services including in-person and virtual counseling. Call CCS at 815-753-1206 anytime to seek help for yourself or on behalf of another student.

If you are a student and need help but don’t know where to start, the staff at your Center for Student Assistance can help with any question or concern. Contact the CSA at 815-753-8300 or studentassistance@niu.edu.

If you are an employee and need support, please contact Employee Well-being at 815-753-9191 or EmployeeAssistance@niu.edu.

We are a community of care, and we are stronger together, especially in difficult times. If the events of the world are affecting you, please reach out to your Huskie community and those equipped to assist you.
