Violin - Apprentice 1
Chantel Davis, local violinist, started taking lessons at the age of 5 with Dave Nelson from Rock Valley College, and later, through the Community School of the Arts began under the instruction of Karen Weckerly, then Ann Montzka-Smelser with whom she studied her entire high school career. Chantel is beginning her freshman year at Northern Illinois University as a Music Performance major, and will be studying with Mathias Tacke as her private instructor.
In 2011, Chantel won the Olympic solo in the Illinois Guitar League, placed third in the RYSO Concerto Competition in 2014, third at Rockford’s Mendelssohn Club Chandler Starr Miller Scholarship Competition in 2014, and first in 2015. She was awarded the Talent Scholarship from the CSA in 2012 and 2014. Davis has been chosen to play in both District and AllState Orchestras for three years, and was invited to participate in the NAFME AllNationals Honors Orchestra two years consecutively. Chantel has also been awarded Musician of the Year by the Rockford Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Currently, Chantel plays in the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, is Concertmaster of CSA Sinfonia and was CoConcertmaster of the Rockford Youth Symphony Orchestra. This past year, she has been selected to play in the Sterling String Quartet and the RYSO Chamber
Orchestra, where she alternates positions as Concertmaster and Principal Second Violin.
Chantel has been featured as a soloist in the CSA Sinfonia, RYSO Chamber Orchestra, and the Rockford Youth Symphony Orchestra. Chantel has cultivated teaching experience by instructing swim lessons over the past four years, including working with a wide variety of ages, needs, and learning abilities. She has also actively worked with children in the CSA as a practice partner over the last five years.
