Help Inform Students About the Career Success Clinic

The Career Success Clinic is happening on Thursday, Sept. 10, and we would love your help spreading the word to students. This event is open to all NIU students, regardless of major or class year, and is designed to help students build confidence and prepare for their career journey.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with 30+ employers
  • Explore campus career resources
  • Learn more about internship and job preparation
  • Learn tips from a professional dress fashion show
  • Get a free LinkedIn headshot at our LinkedIn photobooth

Upcoming Career Service Events for Students

This fall, Career Services is offering a four-part Resume Ready Series, and we would appreciate your help sharing these virtual workshops with your students. 

  • Your First College Resume
    Sept. 15, 12 to 1 p.m.
    Students will learn how to create a professional college resume—even without extensive work experience. The session will cover how to highlight education, skills, campus involvement, volunteer experience, projects, and leadership.
  • Your Way to Career Fair Success with Quinncia
    Sept. 17, 1 to 2 p.m.
    Get prepped for career fairs by taking your readiness to the next level with Quinncia! This workshop will cover Quinncia’s AI-powered resume review, mock interview practice, and LinkedIn optimization tools in one session. Learn how to leverage instant 24/7 feedback to fine-tune your resume, polish your pitch, and stand out to recruiters on paper, online, and in person.
  • Turning Responsibilities into Results
    Oct. 1, 12 to1:00 p.m.
    Students will learn how to transform responsibilities from employment, volunteer service, campus involvement, and leadership roles into strong, results-focused resume statements using action verbs, measurable outcomes, and accomplishments.
  • Skills Employers Want
    Oct. 20, 12 to1 p.m.
    Students will identify the transferable skills employers value most, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, adaptability, technology, and digital skills. They will also learn how to present these skills effectively on their resumes.
  • Beating Resume Bots
    Nov. 5, 12 to 1 p.m. 
    Students will learn how applicant tracking systems review resumes and how to improve their chances of reaching a recruiter by using relevant keywords, selecting ATS-friendly formatting, tailoring their resumes, and avoiding common screening mistakes.

Student Wellness Offering Mental Health First Aid Workshops

This semester, Student Wellness is offering a training option for faculty and staff called Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). MHFA is an evidence-based skills-focused training that teaches teams how to recognize the signs of mental health and substance use challenges. You will learn how to offer support and connect someone with the help they need. MHFA gives you and your team the tools to step up with confidence when someone is struggling. During your training, you’ll increase your knowledge of signs, symptoms and risk factors of mental health and substance use challenges and after your training, you’ll feel more confident talking about mental health and substance use.

We have three workshops scheduled this semester, broken up into two parts.

  • Sept. 21 and 28  from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Illinois Room
  • Oct. 20 and 27 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Illinois Room
  • Nov. 23 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Illinois Room

Residential Dining Services Seeking Internal Applicants for Retail Dining Office Manager

The Department of Residential Dining Services is seeking applications from current NIU employees for a Retail Dining Office Manager position.

This position reports the Director of Retail Dining and provides office support for Dining operations. Essential responsibilities of this position include administrative support to the Director of Retail Dining and Retail Dining Manager. Assisting other dining office managers with payroll and other employee paperwork as well as dealing with highly confidential and sensitive issues.

A group of NIU colleagues are planning a book club/support group centered on learning together about the menopause transition. To assist with planning, we need to know:

  • Approximately how many people would be interested in joining the group.
  • What days/times might be best.
  • The areas of greatest interest.

Financial Month End Close

The month of August is closing for all financial reporting activity at noon Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026. Journals not posted at that time will go into September business. Submit August journals before end of business Tuesday, Sept. 8. Final August reports are scheduled to be available Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026. In addition, September reports are scheduled to be available Monday, Sept. 14, 2026. These and other important dates can be found on the Controller's Office website.
