Applications for crowdfunding projects for this academic year are now open.

Applications are now being accepted for NIU Impact, the crowdfunding platform where students, faculty, staff members and researchers can raise money to turn their great ideas into reality. Since its inception in 2021, NIU Impact has helped raise over $286,000 from 1,877 total gifts. To date, 67.5% of projects have reached their fundraising goal.

Fall campaigns will run Oct. 3-26. Please submit your application by midnight, Sept. 13. Submit your crowdfunding application, or register for one of our informational webinars.

DoIT conducting printer maintenance.

The Division of Information Technology is currently conducting network maintenance on our fleet of Canon printers. DoIT has previously made these changes for public printers and residence hall printers, albeit with some difficulty. Due to the age of the printers and the complexity of this process, we elected to move the remaining department printers during the Summer 2023 term.

Printer network maintenance is managed remotely by DoIT, with the Print Team manually restarting the printer on-site as needed. Please do not turn off your office Canon printer. Printers have an automatic power-saving feature, and we need 100% remote access to make the required network changes.

If you encounter any printer issues, please contact the IT Service Desk at it.niu.edu or by calling (815) 753-8100. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Human Resource Services Preparing for New Welcome Event

Human Resource Services is preparing to launch a monthly Huskie Welcome event for new employees this fall.  This event will highlight what it means to be a Huskie and provide new employees with resources and assistance in acclimating to campus.

As part of the event, we are considering hosting a Resource Fair which would allow groups, departments, and/or offices across campus to share information about their services and resources for employees.

Areas that participate would need to commit to sending an employee from their area to staff the fair for a few hours each month (tentative dates are Aug. 21, Sept. 11, Sept. 20, Oct. 16, Nov. 13, and Dec. 11, 2023).

If your area would be interested in participating, please complete our survey by Aug. 4.

NIU Alumni Association offering grants.

Every NIU office, student organization and program creates value through their impressive work and impact, and the NIU Alumni Association (NIUAA) recognizes that.

The NIU Alumni Association recently was awarded a grant that will help showcase NIU’s important work to the community, and we invite all student organizations, divisions, centers and groups to apply.

Through this grant, you’ll have the chance to extend your reach exponentially in September.

The NIUAA is offering the opportunity for NIU programs to secure tent space (including table and chairs) in Mission’s Grove prior to our Sept. 23 football game against Tulsa (time TBD). Mission’s Grove made its debut last year, and it was quite popular among our alumni, family and friends as we averaged over 300 people per game in our inaugural season.

The NIUAA wants these same people (and more) to engage with your group directly so you can spread the word of your group, division or center. Those interested in participating must complete the application by Aug. 15, 2023. Decisions announced by the week of Aug. 28.

Don’t miss out on your chance to participate. Questions? Connect with NIUAA assistant director Eric Glasby, ’15, M.S.Ed. ’18 at 815-753-1677 or eglasby1@niu.edu.
