Notices

Reminder that Election Day is Nov. 5, 2024: No classes, university open.

While there are no classes on Nov. 5, Election Day is a regular working day and is not designated as a holiday for university employees in Illinois. However, employees may request paid time off to vote in accordance with State of Illinois law. An Election Day Holiday had previously been passed by the State Legislature as a one-year measure for each of the 2020 and 2022 election years. Similar legislation for 2024 does not apply to colleges and universities. For this reason, the general election will be a regularly scheduled work day. Learn more about voting and election day by visiting the NIU calendar.

Effective Oct. 1, 2024, allowance maximums for lodging and meal per diems have been updated and should be verified through the GSA Per Diem Rates in accordance with 80 Ill. Adm. Code 3000.400, 3000.500, 3000.510 and Appendix A.  You may search for per diem rates by selecting the state and city of the travel location or by zip code.  You must also utilize the drop-down box to select the appropriate fiscal year of travel. When using the GSA meal per diem rate tables, please do not include the “incidental expenses” in the amounts submitted for reimbursement. The policy for day trip meal allowances for reimbursement of breakfast and/or dinner has not changed.  If you have any questions, please contact Accounts Payable Services at 815-753-1514 or email AccountsPayableSrvs@niu.edu.
