Getting into Graduate School Seminar (GIGSS)

Interested in going to graduate school but need help with the process? GIGSS (Getting Into Graduate School Seminar) may be able to help you. GIGSS is a 7 week seminar dedicated to helping undergraduates in psychology prepare for the graduate school application process. It is free and you can receive individual feedback from a mentor. If you are seriously considering graduate school and are interested in attending the seminar, then come to the first meeting on Thursday, January 24th from 5-6:00PM in room 156. 

Components of the seminar include but are not limited to:

  • How to decide what program is right for you
  • What experiences are crplanucial (e.g., research experience)
  • How to write a CV and a personal statement
  • How to prepare for the GRE and what to expect
  • How to request letters of recommendation
  • GIGSS will meet every other week from 5-6:00PM in room 156, on Jan 24, Feb 7, Feb 21, March 7, March 21, April 4, and April 18
  • Plan to attend all sessions if possible--it's a whole package!
  • Students can schedule individual feedback on work samples
  • Not a formal class, no enrollment fee or class credit, NO cost
  • The program is most beneficial to students planning on applying  to Ph.D. programs; however, it is open to students applying to any psychology graduate degree program (e.g., M.A., Ph.D., Psy.D.)
