The Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies is an award winning program jointly administered by the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The certificate has been designed to prepare students for careers in public and private museums and related historical societies, archives, and other agencies or institutions that work with artistic, cultural, and historical materials. The 21-semester-hour certificate may be earned on its own or in conjunction with a graduate degree in cooperating departments.
The certificate consists of five core courses, a focused elective, a practicum, and an internship. Course work, practica, and internships review major principles of museum operations, giving graduate students in various disciplines a solid grounding in museum practice. The certificate is one that museums welcome in new employees. It also offers fresh ideas and perspectives to practicing professionals.
