Kelli Schmidt

Kelli Schmidt

About Kelli: I attended Illinois State University, where I earned my bachelor's degree, and I enjoyed working for the auditorium on campus for three years. There I helped run events that sometimes featured celebrities, including Wiz Khalifa and Robin Williams.

Previous Legal and/or Professional Experience:  I first became interested in the legal field because of my dad, who was a police officer for 35 years. When I decided I wanted to become an attorney, I interned for the Kane County State's Attorney's Office where I worked with traffic and misdemeanor cases, the Domestic Victims Unit, and in DUI court. Over the summer before law school, I was rehired to work in the Special Victims Unit, where I worked with abuse cases.

The summer after my 1L year I worked as a law clerk at Rathbun, Cservanyak, and Kozol, a general practice law firm in Plainfield, IL.  I was rehired by the same firm this past summer after my 2L year. I also worked at the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. During my 3L year, I am participating in the NIU Health Advocacy Clinic at Hesed House in Aurora, IL.

What activities are you involved in? I am the Research Editor for Volume 35 of the NIU Law Review and I am a 1L Mentor through the mentoring program sponsored by the Women's Law Caucus.
