Join NIU guitar professor Fareed Haque for a day of learning and listening to the many styles of guitar playing. Attendees participate in master classes, lecture/demos, and visit vendors and guitar builders, who will be on hand with vintage and new instruments and accessories. All participants are invited to bring their instruments, rehearse, and perform with the NIU GuitOrchestra (music available online). The performance will be part of the gala evening concert.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE DAY
All participants are invited to join the GuitOrchestra, which rehearses during the day and performs in the evening. Be sure to note your interest in participating in the group and your instrument on the registration form. Music for the day is posted on this website. Download and print your part and bring it with you on the event day.
In the evening, Fareed Haque joins guest clinicians Larry Coryell, Eduardo Minozzi Costa, Muriel Anderson, and Rex Carroll – along with the GuitOrchestra - for a gala concert. A ticket for the concert is included in the registration fee for those attending the NIU All-Styles Guitar Day and for vendors. For those who want to come to the concert only, single tickets are available at the door for $12 for the general public and $6 for NIU students and employees with an NIU ID.
Morning Master Classes
Gain new insights into classical and jazz techniques at two morning master classes led by Fareed Haque. These sessions are for any guitarist, but should be of particular interest to high school and college students.
Afternoon Master Classes and Q&A Session
Get the inside scoop from famed jazz performer Larry Coryell. Learn more about techniques and styles of rock, classical, and fingerstyle performing from veterans Rex Carroll, Eduardo Minozzi Costa, and Muriel Anderson.
Vendors will be in Room 171 to answer questions and sell vintage and new guitars and accessories from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Information for Vendors
A limited number of vendor booths are available for rental on a first-come, first served basis. The vendors’ room will be open for set up at 8 a.m. and to the public beginning at 9 a.m. The room closes at 5 p.m. Vendors’ booths are 8’ x 8’ and you may rent space with one 6’ x 30” table for $100 or with two tables (same size in same space) for $175. Specify on the form if you would like access to electricity; outlets are limited. You must register using the vendor’s registration form and pay in advance. No walk-in vendors will be allowed.

A block of rooms has been reserved for the nights of September 30 and October 1 for participants at the Holmes Student Center Guest Rooms on the campus of Northern Illinois University. The rooms cost about $65 (not including tax) for a single or double and may be reserved by calling (815) 753-1444 by September 23. Mention the name of the event to the desk clerk for this rate. In the event that weather makes travel hazardous for most of our registrants or that an emergency or weather force the closure of NIU, the All-Styles Guitar Day will be cancelled. In the event of this, registration fees will be refunded. If you suspect the event might be cancelled, feel free to call the office (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) to check. We will do our best to provide information about this: Check our website (www.niu.edu/extprograms), your email in-box, and your telephone messages. If it is after 4:30 p.m. on a weekday or anytime during a weekend, you’ll find a message on our voice mail. The number is (815) 753-1450. If the event is not cancelled, but an individual decides not to attend for any reason, including weather, no refund will be made.
