Welcome

Welcome to NIU’s Department of Anthropology!

Dr. Kendall ThuOn behalf of NIU’s Anthropology Department, I want to extend a welcome to visit our program via our website. Here you will find how anthropology comes alive through our faculty, staff, and students. We are proud of our premiere undergraduate and graduate programs that engage students to actively understand the human condition and our primate relatives.

Our faculty are leading scholars in their fields who firmly believe in the value of directly linking their research to teaching. All of our faculty are engaged in teaching at all levels, from introductory courses to advanced graduate seminars.

Engaged learning is encouraged through multiple faculty led opportunities, including field schools, labs, and applied programs. Graduate and undergraduate students alike can take advantage of the chance to meet leading anthropological scholars visiting NIU from across the country through the graduate seminar series, or simply get to know each other in comfortable social settings via the Anthropology Club.

We are also pleased to announce that our Anthropology Museum is open for students and the general public. All of this and much more remind us of the vibrancy of Anthropology at NIU.

Please do take the time to explore our website and don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions or comments. Be forewarned, however, once you’re bitten by the anthropology bug, life may never be the same!

Cheers,

Kendall Thu
