Academic Programs

The Southeast Asian Studies program at NIU is supported by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. As an undergraduate, you can earn either a minor or contract major. As a graduate student, you can earn a graduate certificate in Southeast Asian studies as part of your graduate program. You may also sign up for the certificate as a graduate student-at-large. CSEAS supports Southeast Asian studies through U.S. Department of Education Title VI funding, which provides Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships to both undergraduates and graduate students. CSEAS also offers weekly brownbag lectures and sponsors student club activities and cultural events throughout the year. If you would like to pursue either the undergraduate or graduate program, contact CSEAS at 815-753-1771 or cseas@niu.edu.
