If you are looking for outdoor adventure and a unique cultural experience, then this program is for you. Located in Mendoza, Argentina, this program will provide you with a total immersion experience in one of the most beautiful countries in South America.
Students will take courses at the Centro de Español como Lengua Extranjera, Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, in beautiful Mendoza, Argentina.
This is a unique opportunity for you to travel abroad, earn course credits, and improve your Spanish language skills. Participating in a study abroad program will undoubtedly be one of the best experiences you will have as a college student.

INTL 301 Study Abroad Programs: Introduction to Argentine Culture
This is an introductory course into various facets of Argentine culture. Activities will include local excursions, cultural immersion projects, volunteer work, and other experiential learning activities. This course is required for all students participating in the program.
FLSP 300 Special Topics: Understanding Latin America
In this course, we will analyze various factors that have shaped Spanish-speaking Latin America. Particular focus will be placed on the effects of exploration and development on Latin America and its current role in our globalized world.
FLSP 463 Hispanic Culture through Film
The focus of this course will be on contemporary Argentine cinema with special attention devoted to cultural topics.
*Students will enroll in two courses total (6 credit hours).
Students will enjoy breakfast with their host families, then meet for their classes in the mornings. In the afternoons, Professor Saborío will provide students with additional cultural activities and local field trips. In the evenings students are encouraged to explore Mendoza on their own.
Students will live with local host families in order to experience a true cultural immersion. Host parents will provide a few amenities, including laundry service, local phone calls, and some meals. Most importantly, they will provide you with support and a unique educational experience.

Two weekend excursions included in the price of the program: 1) an overnight stay to the Andes Mountains and 2) a day trip to either a local finca or to explore the desert.
Conversational partner activities with UNC-Mendoza students, tango lessons, exploratory walks and much more.
Complete 6 credit hours toward your major or minor requirements.

- Travel support is available through the Student Engagement Fund.
- The NIU Study Abroad Office offers limited scholarships for travel.
