Finding Aids

Finding aids are documents that describe archival collections. They often consist of an inventory and a description of the materials, their provenance, and their arrangement. Archon, an open source archival database used to publish finding aids, provides access to all finding aids at Northern Illinois University. For collections held in Rare Books and Special Collections, click here.

A "archon tutorial" PDF is available for those needing help using Archon.

Our archival material holdings range from single items and small groups of letters to full collections of papers. A large portion of the archival collection is comprised of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of American (SFWA) author's papers.

NIU University Libraries began archiving websites of select Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) authors in 2015 and the SFWA organization in 2018.
