Using Lynda.com Courses in Your Teaching
NIU has an institutional license for Lynda.com, a leading online learning platform with courses in business, software, technology, and creative skills. All NIU students, faculty, and staff can access the courses to learn a new skill or explore a new interest. This makes them a valuable resource to include in your course design!
Trends and Motivation for Blackboard use at NIU
Supporting faculty and teaching staff’s use of instructional technologies at Northern Illinois University is one the major functions of the Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center. Last academic year, the center sought data and feedback to better understand how and why faculty at NIU use the Blackboard Learn learning management system.
Updated Academic Integrity Online Tutorials Available
Online tutorials on academic integrity, previously developed in 2005 and made available in part through the “Project for Improvement of Undergraduate Education” grant by the NIU Committee for the Improvement of Undergraduate Education, have been updated and have been re-released at go.niu.edu/academic-integrity
New Blackboard Instructor App Joins Blackboard’s Mobile App Suite
This summer, Blackboard released the new Blackboard Instructor mobile app, which enables you to stay connected to the courses you are teaching on the go, from any Apple or Android mobile device. With the Blackboard Instructor app, you can view course content, connect with students in discussions, and interact with your class in Blackboard Collaborate.
The 2017 Teaching Assistant Orientation Hosted over 225 Participants
This year’s Teaching Assistant Orientation, on August 22, 2017, was a full house with over 225 new and returning graduate assistants and presenters. Faculty and staff from across the university presented on supporting students, teaching and teaching with technology, and managing teaching-related tasks.
