The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at NIU is home to the "Divine Nine" historically African-American fraternities and sororities. These organizations recruit year-round; however, requirements and programs vary. You must have at least 15 academic credit hours at NIU to be eligible for membership.

National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Project

The National Pan-Hellenic Council Yard Project was initiated in 2007 by NPHC organization members. They wanted a part of campus they could call their own. These students envisioned a spot where current members, alumni and future members could gather for events such as homecoming, step shows and neophyte shows. When complete, the yard will be a place all NPHC members can call home.

Future Vision of the NPHC Yard

Location

The NPHC Yard is located on the north side of Stevenson C tower, next to the Larusso Lagoon.

Current Progress

The foundation of the project has been built, and the back wall has been completed. The plot dividers and the performance stage have been laid.

Next Steps

We are ordering benches for each organization, as well as plaques and boulders. These will be placed on each organization's plot. We are also ordering plaques that feature the history of the organization and NPHC as a whole to be mounted to the wall. The last thing still in progress is our brick campaign. Here is where you can leave your legacy!

How You Can Help

The plots will be bricked over to create a consistent patio for each organization. You can purchase a brick to be engraved with up to four lines of 12 or 16 characters each. Purchase a brick today, and leave your legacy at NIU for the next generation of NPHC brothers and sisters! Return the completed form along with your payment to:
