Tonight: Rebuilding Democracy Lecture Series
This series has already brought such high-profile speakers as Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Rep. Adam Kinzinger to NIU virtually in 2021, and kicks off online for the fall semester at 7 p.m.
Register right away to hear from civil rights activist and attorney Benjamin Crump! A leading advocate who has inspired legislation requiring implicit bias training and reducing excessive force, Crump is the president of the National Civil Rights Trail Lawyers Association.
He has represented the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Nakia Jones, Danny Ray Thomas and Stephon Clark.
As we focus on rebuilding democracy, don't forget to take advantage of the many voter registration tables that will be out on Tuesday, Sept. 28 - National Voter Registration Day!
Next Week: Homecoming, Tailgating and Football
Homecoming is right around the corner, from Monday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 3. Celebrate NIU's Huskie Stars with a variety of events. My favorite is the return of free music, food and fun at our traditional tailgate followed by the Huskie Football game Saturday, Oct. 2.
The evening before on Friday, Oct. 1, plan to visit for the Holmes Student Center for A Night At Holmes, a reprise of our popular Welcome Holmes event at the beginning of the semester.
Make sure you browse the calendar for more can't-miss Homecoming happenings every day!
This semester: Keep an Eye on the Events Calendar!
The best way to get involved at NIU is to stay up-to-date on events. Trying to find belonging? Our Breaking Barriers first-generation support group meets the first time this fall on Sept. 30!
Join us in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month through Oct. 1. Click through a virtual exhibit celebrating Latinx Huskies curated by NIU staff and take the opportunity to learn more about others while you are here at NIU.
Don't forget to engage in Homecoming next week. Sport your Red and Black to show your Huskie pride and remember, we always wear read and black on Fridays!
Sincerely,
