Hi Huskies!
Welcome back from what I hope was a restful week away from classes.
Please recommit to attending class regularly and taking advantage of the tutoring, writing help and other services at the Huskie Academic Support Center.
There’s still plenty of time to have a great semester. Below are some ideas to get you started.
Jump back in after Spring Break
Make sure you vote for the Huskies who will represent you in the spring elections hosted by the Student Government Association on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30. You can cast your ballot at Barsema Hall, the HSC, New Residence Hall Community Center, Founders Memorial Library, DuSable Hall OR online in Huskie Link. Catch an Executive Candidate Debate on Thursday, March 24 at the HSC.
Unwind with Student Involvement’s new Make and Take series on Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. at the OASIS pit in the Holmes Student Center. You can stuff your own Huskie plush on March 30, create a personalized intention bracelet on April 6, and pot your own air plant on April 13.
And mark your calendar for a casino night and crafts, bingo, food, caricature artists and prizes at the next A Night at Holmes event on Friday, April 8.
Enjoy the diversity of your pack
Looking for what’s happening right now? We’d love to see you at Celebrating Culture Night — TODAY at the HSC from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
You could also observe Women’s History Month at NIU this evening by dropping into De Mujer a Mujer’s celebration of women at the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center.
Did you know you can audition in April to perform dance, music or poetry for new Huskies during Week of Welcome at the start of the fall semester? Individuals, student organizations, clubs and informal Huskies groups are welcome. Email Melanie Griegoliet to learn more!
You can even make culture and inclusion a part of your educational path at NIU. Consider the Asian American Certificate Program, or a minor in Social Change Leadership.
Registration for classes starts April 4!
Speaking of academics, registration for the summer and fall semesters opens Monday, April 4.
It’s important to review the step-by-step checklist in your inbox on how to register for classes:
- Meet with your advisor.
- Log into MyNIU and Navigate Student.
- Consider finances and review the Bursar Checklist.
- Start planning ahead for textbooks and course materials.
Find your enrollment date in MyNIU, and enroll as early as you can to get the classes you need! If you’ll be living on campus, you can now renew your housing contract for summer and fall.
I hope you’ll make this second half of the semester a fresh start. Please reach out to my team anytime by replying to this email, or contact the Center for Student Assistance 815-751-8300.
Go Huskies!
