Hi Huskies!
Hard to believe it, but spring break is just two and a half weeks away! Here’s hoping your classes are going well, and you’re using academic resources for midterm exams and projects.
Below are three ideas to help you stay organized as you hit the semester’s midpoint.
Free tools to use
Have you been checking your email? The university frequently sends out information about important resources to help make life demands easier to manage.
- Navigate: Want your to-dos and need-to-know info all in one place? Visit NIU’s new Navigate Student system at go.niu.edu/navigate. You can download it as an app and use it to schedule appointments with your advisor, get notified of account holds, stay on top of financial aid and registration, search for campus services and more!
- Safe App: Also available on your phone’s app store or Google Play is the NIU Safe App. Thousands of Huskies use this app for its safety resources, maps and directions, and weather information. You can access updates from and get in touch with Huskie Police, use features like Friend Walk and a Mobile Blue Light emergency button.
- Academic apps: Bookmark the Academic Calendar, and make sure you have the NIU Mobile App and Blackboard on your phone for easier access to software and assignments for classes!
Ways to get involved
- SGA Elections: The Student Government Association has started hosting candidate meetings for Huskies interested in running for election this spring. This informational session will help you learn everything you need to know about running to represent students as part of the SGA.
- Keep informed: Stay in the know by signing up for TLDR, the Northern Star’s student-focused newsletter. You’ll stay up to date on important issues and things to do.
- Student org series: The National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapters at NIU have joined forces with Collins Aerospace for a series of talks by CEET alumni who are emerging leaders in their fields.
- Check out our Student Involvement hub for more ideas and upcoming events.
Events worth your time
- Black Heritage Month: The Center for Black Studies is hosting events all February, including self-care opportunities, helpful talks and workshops, and much more.
- All events and activities: Check out NIU’s full events calendar for more happenings on campus, virtually and in the community!
- As you get out more and have fun, please remember that NIU’s mask mandate remains in effect through the end of the month. Beyond then, masks are still required in certain spaces. Read the Protecting the Pack policy.
If you’re continuing in the summer or fall, registration for future semesters will be here before you know it, in early April. Stay focused, and know a break is coming soon in March.
Go Huskies!
