Dear Huskie families,
Whether this is your student's first year at NIU or their last, we're excited to have you as a member of our Huskie family. Consider Family Connections your source for information — including events, programs, resources and tips. Know that we're here to support your student, and you, too! We'll be reaching out regularly to keep you connected.

Encourage your student to get involved
The No. 1 most offered piece of advice for Huskies: Get Involved! Encourage your student to check out our new Huskie Hub, our online platform for over 200 organizations and a wide variety of fraternities and sororities. Whether they're looking for a specific club or exploring new paths and interests, your student will find plenty of options. The more active your student is on campus, the more likely they'll stay on track as they make friends and have fun.

Resources for Students
Speaking of staying on track, this newly retooled Student Life website is a great resource. Be sure to refer your student. They'll find everything they need to succeed at NIU, including how to find their community, navigating their finances and academics, and staying informed and healthy. We're big on asking for help around here. Please encourage your Huskie to use these resources and get help when needed.

Family Weekend
Family Weekend is almost here. Join us Sept. 16-18 to explore fun activities on and around campus with your Huskie. We're hosting all kinds of events such as movies and music, outdoor adventures, food, and of course, Huskie football. Visit downtown DeKalb while you're here, too. The recently revamped downtown area features restaurants, shops and more.

Safety on Campus
Encourage your student to download the NIU Safe App for safety bulletins and other features to help keep our community safe. Learn more in this short video from NIU Police Chief Darren Mitchell.
