It's time to register! Is your Huskie ready?
|
|
Now is the time for your Huskie to start preparing to register for summer and fall 2023 classes. You'll find guidelines on when to register and how to register for classes at go.niu.edu/register. We also provide tips for parents and family members on ways to keep your student's education on the right path. Registering early will help your student get the schedule they prefer and qualify for scholarships and financial aid. Please encourage your student to meet with their academic advisor as soon as possible if they haven't yet.

Save the Dates

Be sure to mark your calendar for the following university closures and exam dates:
-
Tuesday, Nov. 8. Election Day. The university is closed. We encourage all Huskies to vote through our Huskies Vote effort, where you'll also find resources on why voting matters, where to vote, candidate information and more.
-
Wednesday, Nov. 23. No classes. Thanksgiving Break begins. Classes resume Monday, Nov. 28. Wishing you and your family a safe, healthy and wonderful Thanksgiving.
-
Monday, Dec. 5 through Saturday, Dec. 10. Final exams. Finals are known as a time of stress and frantic studying. Check on your student to make sure they're getting enough food and rest. You'll find tips on ways your Huskie can stay on track, as well as resources to help them succeed and be well through our new Student Life site.

Encourage your student to download our NIU Safe App
|
|
With daylight saving time ending this past weekend, it will now get dark earlier. Do you know that your student has direct access to important safety resources through our NIU Safe App? This app features:
-
A "Mobile Blue Light" that allows your student to instantly share their location with NIU police.
-
A "Virtual Walk Home" so they can share their location with an NIU police dispatcher until they arrive at their destination.
-
A "Friend Walk" so they can allow a family member or friend to track their location until they reach their destination.
Ask your student if they have the NIU Safe App on their phone. And if they don't, please encourage them to download it from the app store.
