Hello, Huskie families!
This summer, I joined NIU as interim vice president of Student Affairs, and I'm ecstatic to welcome you and your student to a new academic year.
Huskies have so much to look forward to this fall semester. As President Lisa Freeman shared to kick off the first week of classes — our campus is welcoming Huskies home to new beginnings.
Most NIU students haven't spent much, if any, time here in the past year and a half. This means now is a critical time for them to explore the Huskie experience and find belonging in our pack.

Encourage your Huskie to Get Involved!
|
|
Students who are active on campus are more likely to be successful, stay on track to completing their degrees and forge connections that last beyond graduation.
We recently shared these outlets for involvement with your Huskie:

Join the Fun During NIU's Family Weekend
|
|
As a Huskie family member, you're part of our pack, too! Please come back and join your student on campus for Family Weekend at NIU, taking place Friday to Sunday, Sept. 10 to 12.
Please register for this immersive experience inviting you to stay, eat and play on campus.
Get ready for a packed lineup of activities — on campus and across the DeKalb community. Highlights include a meet 'n greet with president and provost, tailgate and Huskie football game, and a pancake breakfast with the Student Government Association.

Do Your Family's Part in Protecting the Pack
|
|
Please encourage your student to keep our campus safe and do their part in Protecting the Pack. Huskies are expected to wear masks in all campus buildings, self-monitor and report symptoms and exposure, and continue to physically distance.
NIU students who received a personal exemption while vaccinations were under Emergency Use Authorization status should move forward with getting vaccinated now that the Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination will be required to register for spring 2022 semester courses.
Huskies can take advantage of free vaccine clinics on campus Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 1 and 2.
My team in Student Affairs has been thrilled to see Huskies bringing campus to life. Please be patient as we continually enhance our in-person experience and adjust to state guidance.
Reach out anytime with questions. Your friends at NIU are here whenever you need us.
Go Huskies!
