Hello, Huskie families!
Just two and a half weeks from now, your student will be headed into spring break! My team reached out to them recently to make sure they're using academic resources to prepare for midterm exams and projects.
Will you consider sharing these ideas with your Huskie to help them stay organized as we approach the semester's midpoint?

Free tools at your student's fingertips.
|
|
Navigate: Did you know your student can get their to-dos and need-to-know info in one place? They can now use our new Navigate Student system. Encourage them to download the app and use it to schedule appointments with their advisor, get notified of account holds, stay on top of financial aid and registration, search for campus services and more.
Safe App: Also available to your Huskie is our NIU Safe App. Thousands of students use this app for its safety resources, maps and directions, and weather information. They can access updates from and get in touch with Huskie Police, use features like Friend Walk and a Mobile Blue Light emergency button.
Academic apps: Make sure your student has the NIU mobile app and Blackboard on their phone for easier access to software and assignments for classes. They should also check out the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning's library of tips for success.

Ideas to get involved this semester.

SGA Elections: The Student Government Association has started hosting candidate meetings for Huskies interested in running in spring elections to represent the student body in 2022-2023. These informational sessions help Huskies learn everything they need to know about running to represent students as part of the SGA.
Keep informed: Students can be in the know by signing up for TLDR, the Northern Star's regular student-focused newsletter. They'll stay up to date on important issues and things to do.
Student organization series: The National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers chapters at NIU have joined forces with Collins Aerospace for a series of talks by CEET alumni who are emerging leaders in their fields.

Events every Huskie should check out.
|
|
Black Heritage Month: The Center for Black Studies has been hosting events all February including self-care opportunities, helpful talks and workshops, and much more.
All events and activities: Check out our full events calendar for more happenings on campus, virtually and in the community.
Something for your Huskie to keep in mind is that, although the mask mandate for campus lifts at the end of February, masks will still be required in certain spaces. Read the Protecting the Pack policy.
What's next for your student? Spring break will be here before they know it! And if they're continuing at NIU this summer or fall, registration starts in early April, just over a month away.
Go Huskies!
