STEMFest FAQ
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
STEM Fest is Northern Illinois University’s largest nonpathogenic event, designed to bring young people and their parents to NIU to explore STEM fields and future careers. Parents and teachers can learn about our outreach opportunities and establish ongoing relationships with those interested in encouraging young people to pursue STEM careers.
Is STEM Fest face to face this year?
In 2020, STEM Fest several events and activities were available online all month long. STEM Fest 2020 wrapped up with a large, free online STEM Fest celebration and expo. You can still access some of our event highlights on our YouTube channel and STEAM Community site.
In 2021, we hope to offer a combination of online events and our usual in-person event at the NIU Convocation Center.
Nearly all of our events and activities are free. Some in-person, hands-on activities require a small fee to cover materials. We also have an online store where you can purchase t-shirts and other merchandise.
Can my scout still earn scout patches?
Yes! We have activities for your troop to complete, and once you’ve finished all of them, you’re eligible to purchase patches online.
We’re looking for community partners to organize STEM Fest activities, exhibit at our events, and/or sponsor our events. If you have an event or activity that you think is a good fit for STEM Fest 2021, we’d love to hear about it.
